With a fifth volume, an annual series reaches a level of stability which allows the faithful reader to anticipate what may be found in the book. The Annual Review of Pharmacology has reached this birthday and appears to have afforded pleasure and information to readers.

We thank the many writers for their splendid willingness to labor for their fellow scientists. We thank Elizabeth Foster, the Assistant Editor, for her steady pressure to keep the requisite calendar wheels turning and Mrs. Dorothy Read for preparation of the Subject Index. Lastly, we welcome the elevation of Henry Elliott to the editorship, knowing that he will bring competent guidance and affection to the Review.
